Cover Design & Layout
Layouts are so my thing! :D
I had missed out lessons on InDesign for the previous weeks due to my Amsterdam trip. However, Ms. Ivy was really nice to have a practical session that gave us recap on whatever InDesign is all about. Basically it was not too difficult to use, except that in the beginning we had to get used to how it works (it's different in comparison to Photoshop and Illustrator, whereby it has no layers). We learnt how to insert/resize images, play around with gradients, and most of all explore what text/typography was all about. It was a fairly simple lesson, and for the rest of it Ms. Ivy walked around guiding anyone who needed her help.
In the case of creating my design above, it was not too hard a task. I didn't even use any gradients! All I had, and took more time doing, was to get a suitable photograph for my magazine cover. I put quite an amount of effort in digging Google to get an attractive yet high quality image of a lionfish. After some time of tinkering with the necessary tools for placing, resizing images, as well as the text tool and the application of shadow effects, my job was done. I think it takes an eye for good choices (and online references too) in terms of text and layout to produce a good magazine cover. It's not hard, but it requires detail. As a whole, I guess I can say I'm quite happy with how my Artwork 4 turned out!
